Most corrupt political party in the world - Another Goolge Bombing Example

One of my friend at facebook shared a post over facebook asking people to Search for "most corrupt political party in the world". In the post he have also attached the screenshot of Google search results that highlights the Wikipedia page of Indian National Congress. Indian National Congress is one the main national parties in India along with BJP (Bhartiya Janta Party).  Now that guy is a supported of Narendar Modi, PM candidate from BJP for 2014 elections to be help in India.

Now reason I believe this phrase "Most corrupt political party in the world" can be another classic example of Google Bombing after "miserable failure" is because the guy who share the link over facebook is a SEO guy himself and chances are there that he might be trying to the get the INC wikipedia page to the number one spot when searched for "Most corrupt political party in the world".

Wikipedia pages are the best pages to get ranked in search results, tou can easily tweak the content and some off-page SEO can easily do the trick here.

If you take a look at the results, the other results are about corrupt countries and what people think about political parties. No other page for any other political party of India or any other country. Perhaps there is something fishy here.

How Google Instant effects your online marketing campaigns

When google instant hit the google search results, it was the hot topics many people were happy and many disappointed with google instant. I remember one of my ex manager tweeted "Google instant user in me Likes it, SEO in me little worried".

Perhaps that was the response of most SEO experts in the world. I was just reading a nice article on the same topic and would like to share the article with you.

Impact of 'Google Instant' on Your Online Marketing Campaigns
On the 8th of September 2010, Google launched its Instant Search interface, which shows results as you type, in real time. Searchers, particularly from the Search Engine Marketing (SEM) industry, have reacted sharply to the new interface. Many users find the new interface distracting, even annoying.
Google Instant is being sold as a faster and better User InterfaceMatt Cutts from Google says that the change is more about rolling out a new User Interface (UI) rather than an algorithmic change. Matt attempted to allay the fears of the SEM industry by suggesting "SEO is not dead" but may change due to instant search query feedback to users, which in turn, may change their search behaviour. He believes that the searchers will diversify their queries within the scope of the original intent.
The effect of predicted query suggestions on user behaviorWhile Google claims that the Search Ranking Algorithm remains unchanged, the new feature will surely change search behaviour of users due to instant feedback mechanism. A lot of users are likely to select the predictive results, which fulfil their original intent, and stop typing further. Some users may get distracted from their original intent as 'irrelevant but interesting' results may lead to unintended searches. For example a user may digress into "home improvement loans" after typing "home improvement" instead of following his original intent of searching for "home improvement ideas."

Google bends to German privacy concerns

BERLIN – Google Inc. said Thursday it would double the amount of time Germans have to opt out of having their homes shown in its "Street View" feature, which has sparked a fierce public debate over privacy concerns.

Germans will now have eight weeks, instead of four, to request images of their homes be deleted, Philipp Schindler, Google's vice president for Northern and Central Europe said in a statement.

Google last week announced its plan to introduce "Street View" for the 20 biggest German later this year, raising concerns in this privacy-conscious country.

"We were aware of the fact that 'Street View' could lead to discussions in Germany," Schindler said.

He stressed that Google has committed itself to an extensive series of measures to protect people's privacy, "far beyond those in other countries."

At authorities' insistence, the company created an online tool Germans can use to request pictures of their homes be removed before the service's launch — something Google hasn't done anywhere else. "Street View" is currently available in 23 countries.

Many officials and politicians pressured the company to extend the deadline for people to opt out.

Germany's justice minister Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger welcomed the move, saying in a statement that "it is good that Google has doubled the time for objections to restore lost trust."

The online tool launched Monday and will now be available throughout October 15. Google Germany spokeswoman Lena Wagner said the extension will not delay the launch of "Street View", tentatively planned for November.

Wagner declined to say how many people had already asked to have their house removed from the database. Germany's consumer protection ministry expects tens of thousands to request that images of their homes be deleted.

The Mountain View, California, company also addressed another demand of German data protection officials by saying that data would be handled securely and deleted as soon as legally possible. Google also conceded to allowing officials to carry out inspections to ensure appropriate handling of the data.

"Street View" has also tangled with authorities in other European countries, including Austria and Spain, over privacy concerns.

The U.S. Internet giant lost the trust of many when it had to acknowledge this spring that technology used by its "Street View" cars had also vacuumed up fragments of people's online activities broadcast over public Wi-Fi networks for the past four years.

Google is facing legal inquiries in Spain and South Korea on suspicion the search company illegally gathering personal data while photographing city streets.

Google co-founders to sell $5.5B combined in stock

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Google Inc. co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin are relinquishing some of their control over the Internet search leader with the sale of 10 million shares worth $5.5 billion at current prices.
Under a plan disclosed Friday, the longtime business partners will each sell 5 million Google shares during a five-year period that will commence with the first trade.
The sales will occur periodically to lessen the chances of hurting Google's stock price.
Page and Brin, both 36, will remain Google's most influential shareholders, although they will be losing some of their clout.
The two iconoclasts own a special class of Google stock that gives them combined voting power of about 59 percent -- enough to override the wishes of all other shareholders if they wanted. The duo secured this veto power to ensure Google remained true to their values, which are summed up in the company motto, "Don't Be Evil."
After the sales, the founders' holdings will be whittled to a combined 47.7 million shares with 48 percent voting power.
Falling below the 50 percent threshold might not matter because they run Google as a ruling triumvirate with the company's chief executive, Eric Schmidt, whose shares hold 10 percent voting power.
Although the trio acknowledge occasional disagreements, they insist they always work things out amicably. What's more, Schmidt, Page and Brin have agreed to remain at Google at least through 2024.
Executives and founders of companies commonly enter into predetermined stock trading plans to raise cash and diversify their investments.
Page and Brin each currently have about $16 billion of their fortunes tied up in Google stock. By their own choice, their annual salary at Google is just $1.
"They are both as committed as ever to Google and are integrally involved in our day-to-day management and product strategy," Google spokeswoman Jane Penner said. "The majority of their net worth remains with Google."
This marks the second time Page and Brin have sold big chunks of stock since Google went public in August 2004.
Three months after the company's initial public offering, Page and Brin filed an 18-month plan that divested 7.2 million shares apiece.
Back then, Google shares were trading around $169.40. The stock is worth three times as much now, closing at $550.01 Friday after falling $32.97, or 5.7 percent.

Google Phone getwhat u want before you search

Google filed a patent which includes predicting phone calls and actions based upon time and location. Its being predicted that this technology could even debut in the iPhone when it is released in June.

In the patent Google discusses how all the data is stored on Google’s servers and queries are sent whenever the user is searching for something or typing a message. Presumably the queries would be sent over some kind of mobile AJAX interface. This patent is truly groundbreaking in what the application could do. Imagine that you are planning a night out in London. At 6pm Google could predict you are looking for a restaurant and, given your history of looking for directions to Chinese restaurants every week, would select an array of suitable places for you to eat.

At 9pm you would turn your phone on again and Google would know you wanted bars near the restaurant. At 11pm Google again predicts you need a list of local taxi firms.
